Are ozone air purifiers good or bad to have inside the home?
It depends on who you ask. The E.P.A. says that the limit for ozone exposure is,i believe,50 parts per billion.Some machines put out more than that.Always check with the manufacturer to check their specs. Consumer reports is a good place to get this info.Ozone,even in small amounts can bother some people.With others,it is not a problem. I would make sure that any machine you buy has the ability to turn the ozone OFF.Also check on other aspects of a machines ability to clean the air.Things like positive and negative ions (you want more negative than positive).Also does it kill bacteria,mold and viruses with ultraviolet light? How much does the bulb cost when it needs to be replaced? Does it use any filters? If so, how much do they cost when it’s time to replace.Hope this helps

Ozone attacks biological material because it consists of free radicals of oxygen. If you can smell ozone there is too much concentration in a room. A hepa air filter would be a better solution to purifying the air. Also if you have a forced air furnace, you can get very good air filters that will take particles out of the air. Talk to a good contractor that deals with high end systems to find those better filters, since they are not generally available at home improvement centers.
