How often do you need to change a HEPA type filter in an air filtering device, for allergies?

So my boyfriend and I decided we should get the Ionic Pro, which is similar to the Ionic Breeze. Which seem to make sense because we didn’t need to buy any filters for it ever. But as soon as we turned it on, my bf started to get dizzy, and chest pains. We researched it and found out that the Ionic type air cleaners emit OZONE, which can irritate your lung passage, and asthma. So we returned it the next day. We are thinking about getting a HEPA type air cleaner, but we don’t know which is the best deal… plus the cost for filters – our room seems to collect dust even the moment after we clean it. And we suffer from the dust allergies, even after we clean it..: / How often do you change the filter in your HEPA type air cleaner?

every 6 months
i’d say every 3 months
