I keep a small one here next to my desk during allergy season and it seems to help. Here are a bunch of them. http://www.google.com/products?q=home+air+filters&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=0jQDS_CxE5GqswOq2oXIDg&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=4&ved=0CEcQrQQwAw

A google search or a trip to your local home store should give you a lot more information.

To be sure, there are a myriad of choices for air cleaning for your home. Definitely stay away from the ozone products. These are the ones that make the weird smell and can damage your lungs. Ionizers are very inefficient and can produce ozone as a by-product. The HEPA units that are installed on your furnace are called by-pass filters because the air in your return duct passes right by the filter section, hoping to get pulled in to get filtered. Again, a very high efficiency filter with a low efficiency mechanism. You are looking for the Electro Breeze Duct Mount UV kit at http://www.allergy-relief-air-purifier.com/electrostatic_air_purifiers.html. This is a 97% efficient filter coupled with an ultra-violet light to kill mold and viruses. Low energy usage, easy maintenance, low maintenance cost and easy to install. Take a look at the video of an actual install to see what it takes to turn your furnace into a whole house air purifier at http://www.allergy-relief-air-purifier.com/free_streaming_videos.html
