My wife is allergic to my dogs hair in the air.?
Anyone know of a good air filter/purifier for this kind of thing?
People are not allergic to the hair/fur, but to dander. Loose hair just makes the reaction worse because it gets in the nose/throat and causes irritation.
Brush your dog daily, multiple times if need be. Vacuum as often as needed. Try different types of filters. Bathe your dog once a month or LESS with an oatmeal based shampoo OR a shampoo recommended by a groomer for dry skin (which produces dander.) Don’t “over bathe” (meaning more often than once a month). Make sure your dog is on a quality food (no corn, no by-products, no dyes) as allergies can cause dry skin/dander.
Beyond that, there’s nothing much that can be done. Maybe a daily OTC allergy medication could provide relief?

brush your dog every day.
Brush your dog. Have your wife go to an allergist who can alleviate the problem.
groom your dog like the other person said.
my friends mam is allergic to dog hair, but she just hoovers. and brushes her dog every day.
What breed of dog is it, first off. When people are allergic to dogs, they are not allergic to the hair/shedding. There is an allergen in the dander, a specific protein that people react to. Brushing the dog more frequently will NOT help this. It will make it worse. Go to your local pet retailer and purchase an allergy reducer shampoo. If one is not available for dogs (I have seen them for cats, but dog’s I am not sure), purchase the FURminator brand shampoo and conditioner, along with the comb in accordance to the size of your dog.
Use shampoo and conditioner as directed, and brush as directed. If you bathe the dog once to twice a week, and condition and brush every two weeks, this should greatly reduce the undercoat of the dog, where the dander likes to hide before being released into the air. This should help with the allergy issues your wife is having.
