Looking at 'water air purifiers' are they good?

So I’m looking at this water air purifier, you put water in it and apparently it takes out allergens in the air. Has anyone used any of these? do they actually work?

Anyone have suggestions on the best air purifier for a smoke filled home?

I’m 28 an have been living in this house for most of my life. I moved out to live with boyfriends and what not, but for the most part have lived here. My uncle (who chain smokes) and my grandfather (who smokes cigars) has lived here the whole time I’ve been here, and before my mom and grandmother passed away they also smoked and lived here. Needless to say I’ve always got my fair share of 2nd hand smoke. I’m starting to get a cough now that I never had before, and I am wondering what is a good air filter for smoke? I have TWO air purifiers in my room that I have to constantly clean, of course one is old and the other is the ionic pro but with the smoke in this house it gets dirty SO fast I have to clean it every week.
I even have a filter type material double layered over my air vent but mostly that just keeps out dust, doesn’t work too well on smoke ;(
Some of you might say "well your 28, just move out" yea I wish I could..but I cant I because I’m taking care of my 81 year old grandfather who has cancer (he says cigars are his only "vice" and let me tell you, he smokes ALL day)
PLEASE I need advice on a good air purifier that’s affordable like 0 or under that is good for smoke & not just dust & allergens..any advice will be appreciated. I’m tired of not being able to breathe ;(

Choice between air purifiers – Blueair or Air Lights?

Hi all – I’m looking to buy an air purifier for my bedroom (just over 150 sq.ft.), to help reduce dust, airborne allergens, etc. My mother smokes a lot, which also doesn’t help. Having been diagnosed with a (very) minor, restrictive lung disease, I’d like to start taking better care of my health – especially in regards to respiration. We do have the general air filter attached to the A/C / heating unit, but I would like something more.

Doing some research, I thought I would just get the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze, but have read many terrible things about it – specifically, the ozone produced is VERY bad for your health. Looking around, I found the Blueair 250E Digital Air Purifier (http://www.achooallergy.com/blueair250eairpurifier.asp#product_reviews) and the Air Lights Plasma Air Purifier (http://reviews.ebay.com/Review-of-the-Air-Lights-Plasma-Air-Purifier_W0QQugidZ10000000002480036).

I’m leaning towards the Blueair, but would like others input and suggestions!

Indoor Pollution and its Impact for Asthma Sufferers

It’s very well known that increased levels of air pollutants on a given day will increase the occurrence of asthma exacerbations and actually nasal symptoms as well. Often times, there’s a lag of about one or two days after the increased ozone or particulate matter exposure, which are the pollutants most commonly monitored, and the occurrence of disease. We think that that 24-hour lag time is associated with changes in the airway inflammatory system that make a person with asthma more likely to respond to things that they’re allergic to such as house dust mite allergen or cat allergen. Air Purifier/Filter for allergies?

I have a cat & have breathing problems. Getting rid of the cat is NOT an option. Would an air purifier/filter help remove some of the allergens from the air inside my house? Can anyone tell me a good brand of machine that would clean the air in approx. 500 square feet? And would something like this reduce the amount of dander on floors & furniture? Thanks!

are dehumidifiers or air purifiers better for getting rid of dustmites?

are dehumidifiers or air purifiers better for getting rid of dustmites because I heard that air purifiers only get rid of allergens that are already floating in the air and dustmite allergies are "blowed upwards in the air" only when you step on carpet or lay your head and body against the bed and pillow causing them to rise into the air.

Is it better to install a HEPA filter in the furnace or purchase HEPA air purifiers for each room?

I am trying to fight against allergens in my house, as my boyfriend is allergic to my cat.

I was considering buying a HEPA air purifier for the bedroom and a larger one for the kitchen/dining room/ living room area of my house. I’m also planning on replacing the furnace soon and could have a HEPA filter installed on the furnace then as well.

Would one of these be better than the other in term of cutting down allergens in the air? Financially, the individual units seem cheaper, but I feel like the furnace filter might be more effective as it would help the whole house.
Good individual air purifiers cost anywhere from 0-0 and I would have to purchase multiple. Getting a top-of the line furnace would cost even more. "Doing both" isn’t really an option.

Is it a good idea to run an air filter and a humidifier at the same time in one room?

Not sure if the extra humidity will affect the air purifier. It is a hepa filter type of purifier. Trying to keep the allergens out and also humidify the air because it is really dry right now and i wake up with a really dry throat the past few days.
I’m using distilled water for the humidifier.

Air Deodorizer / Air Cleaner help?

Hi Everyone,

First time using this, and it’s because I’m desperate for help.

My Question is this:
My roomate who lives with me, always stays in his room (yes its terrible), and the thing is he often eats takeout in his room and doesnt throw it away right away, so it starts to smell up his room, and it leaks into the apartment. I’ve asked him to clean up more often but being in university, hes often busy which is understandable.

So I’ve tried the plug in air fresheners but I think MASKING the problem isn’t effective as solving it. I want to know if anyone has any good recommendations for a machine that effectively eliminates ODORS as the top priority?

I’m a bit confused as to whether air cleaners / air purifiers actually tackle the odor issue as well? For example, the Surround Air XJ2100 or the Ionic Breeze. Most of these focus on cleaning the air from allergens etc., not really the ODOR in the air.

Hope you guys can help. Thanks so much!

Do home air cleaners work for air pollution (such as car emmisions) as well as dander/pollen/allergens?

I’ve already read that many popular air purifiers actually emitt a lot of ozone, but for the ones that do not, do they work against city air pollution that comes from industrial work or is it just against organic allergens?
