I’m looking for an air filter that will trap mold, dust, allergens, etc. as well as reduce odors. My apartment is about 650 sq. ft. so all the kitchen smells disperse through the whole place. I don’t want one of those ionic purifiers that create a lot of ozone which is even worse for you than the dust and mold. If anyone has a website that I can get reviews, I’d appreciate that too.

We think we might be moving into an apartment that has a mold problem. I hear that air purifiers can filter spores that can cause you to get sick. Do they really work?

Wondering if they would ? I do have wood floors and keep apartment clean and free of mess. I have a couple of cats and a puppy. Please help

I am trying to minnimize the "stale air" smell mixed with food odors that we have in our apartment. My spouse is CRAVING fresh air but not sure which one I should get. My grandmother had an IONIC Breeze type unit years ago and I loved the smell but not sure my spouse would respond the same. They nearly hate everything that I like so I am thinking about the air purifier with the charcoal insert. Anybody have any luckw ith these? The "customer reviews" on Amazon.com and other websites seem as if they are written by the manufacturers anyway.

Right now I’m thinking of buying the 0 or so HEPA type air purifiers. I would like to get an air purifier for my apartment, but want to know if they can double as a fan. Do they usually blow like a fan as well, or do they just purify the air without the breeze? If not, are there some you can think of that blow as well as purify? Which ones can you guys recommend?

I live in an apartment here and I am getting sick of all this crap from other people’s cooking. It’s an older building and they won’t look into it.
I read HEPA is a better purifier but I don’t know if it would stop smells from coming in my front door… it is shut so don’t give me stupid stuff about shut your door, just too old of a building (renovation they are doing doesn’t help).
Smells only hit me in the living room/dining room… about 350 sq ft I need to protect from smells.
Will a HEPA do this?

I was found pregnant around July 11 and confirmed on July 13. It was an unplanned pregnancy and I was very worried about the health of the baby. Thinking of the concerns, first, I got very bad sore throat without running noses starting June 28th. I had to take the Nighttime cough syrup (alcohol 10%)for my bad irritating throat for a bit relief couple of times until the following week: each time I took about 15 ml before bedtime and even near the early morning for non-sleep. The following week the sore throat seemed to be gone slowly in the middle of the week, and on that weekend, I found I was pregnant by the pregnancy test. So I was very concerned for my alcoholic consumption: besides the cough syrup, I also did some social drink with my family for events during June and till the time I knew I was pregnant. Even though I was not a big drinker at all, usually less than a cup, for couple of times.

And then, I was found having UTI on July 13 and was given Cephalexin 250mg for 1 capsule 4 times a day for 7 days treatment. That time the gestation is about week 5 and 6.

Further, things happened even worse. My in-laws hired some company to put on alphalt fume on the parking lot driveway on July 25, that time I was just passing 7 weeks of pregnancy as from the start of last period (June 4). They weren’t aware of the damage of the smells around our apartment which was surrounded by the whole back and the left side of the asphalt smells, on that day, it was pretty hot and the back windows were wide open and the wind blew very strong smells right into our apartment, and I first smelled and had to breath in before I could leave the spot. I had to hold my breath and still I had to breathe in the fumes for times I couldn’t count. I went out and had to stay the half afternoon elsewhere. Then later I went back, my husband told me that he can send me to my in-law’s house since they left town. And I had to go pack up couple of things that I need and then I smelled the very strong and bad fumes again in my apartment and I felt like I was dying in it.

After then, my throat and lung seemed to be heavy and burning hot and caused me cough, my whole body started feel so uncomfortable even more, I googled and found that the asphalt contains thousands of chemicals and compounds, was reported to be linked to women’s reproductive system and birth defect. And I had to suffer the sick smells living in my apartment with the windows shut in that hot week, I smells everything around the apartment asphalt, residual smells seemed not to be able to get rid of, and I had to keep the front window a bit cracks for some airs mixed with the asphalt still. I was so concerned about this external environmental hazard that I had no control of happening. About a week after I lived in the apartment from July 25th, on Aug 4, I had to move to the in-law’s house to temporarily stay since I has so much nauseated feeling and breathing trouble in my throat. And then the next day, those workers happened to be doing that again around the house parking lot and driveway before I found out and it was too late to stop them. I talked to my mother-in-law and she said very sorry but she told them to do it any time and didn’t realize they did it on the day I was staying over. What can I say? And I had to stay away from the garage door and driveway and go out of the house from the other side.

I am still so worried about if those things could possibly cause my developing baby’s defects during this critical important developing time (week 3-week 12).

I am currently reading the book: Your Pregnancy week by week, and it keeps reminding me this unplanned pregnancy and all the troubles I have so far, and further, more concerns even unmentioned, including the month from the end of May to the end of June that the overuse and work I had around computer and lack of sleep, unsafe foods taken, herbals taken etc….I just want to know how the result of this pregnancy would be…Any discussion is welcome if you have experienced any of the above or if you have knowledge about these or you already have healthy babies born under these external factors. I keep the temp warm in my apartment but the weird thing is that my air purifier blows cold air all the time. Do all air purifiers blow cold air no matter what temp it is?

My puppy is semi-trained to use pee pads, because there’s no way for her to take her potty breaks outside. I replace the pee pads frequently, but I’d still like to keep the air a bit fresher in the apartment.

Does anyone know of an air filter or purifier that keeps pet odors at bay?

My apartment was flooded 9 months ago. I think I have black mold in the walls.I have cleaned and cleaned. The carpet has been replaced too. Do you know of a good air purifier? I am tired all of the time since this happend.

I think I just had some neighbors move in that must smoke a lot because it smells incredibley strong when I walk into my apartment. I guess it must be leaking through the walls I dont know how else it would be happening. What can I do about this? Do air purifiers work, I really dont want to spend a lot of money

First time using this, and it’s because I’m desperate for help.

My Question is this:
My roomate who lives with me, always stays in his room (yes its terrible), and the thing is he often eats takeout in his room and doesnt throw it away right away, so it starts to smell up his room, and it leaks into the apartment. I’ve asked him to clean up more often but being in university, hes often busy which is understandable.

So I’ve tried the plug in air fresheners but I think MASKING the problem isn’t effective as solving it. I want to know if anyone has any good recommendations for a machine that effectively eliminates ODORS as the top priority?

I’m a bit confused as to whether air cleaners / air purifiers actually tackle the odor issue as well? For example, the Surround Air XJ2100 or the Ionic Breeze. Most of these focus on cleaning the air from allergens etc., not really the ODOR in the air.
